Marsa Alam is one of the fastest growing holiday resorts in Egypt, popular with wind surfers, divers and sun worshippers fortunate enough to have discovered the resort's remote tranquility. Although previously a small fishing village, Marsa Alam still retains its charm and beauty. Since the opening of its International Airport in 2001, it has rapidly increased in popularity, and started to become yet another favourite holiday destination on the Red Sea Riviera. Flights are however limited but an alternative is to fly in to Hurghada and then transfer by taxi which takes 3 hours and cost around £275 return for up to four passengers. Flight time from London is around 4.75 hours.

When to go

The major Red Sea resorts are open all year. Temperatures in the Red Sea resorts average in the low 20's Celsius during the winter months but rise to the high 30's during the summer peak season.

Boat Trips: There are loads of boat trips on offer throughout all of the resorts and they can last between 1 to 3 hours. This is a great way to see the many species of fish that live in the coral just off the shore. Prices vary so check them out before booking.

Scuba Diving & Snorkeling: There are many opportunities for both activities BUT they should only ever be done by experienced swimmers and divers. Several "chance to learn courses" are available in the resort but this can take up a lot of your holiday time and you would do better to learn in the UK before you go. Details can be found here.
